Hi-SET Exam


The Hi-SET test was developed by the American Council on Education to measure five general academic areas that are equated with the traditional high school experience. The Hi-SET is earned by passing tests in 5 areas of writing, social studies, science, reading and math. Successful completion of the Hi-SET is equivalent to obtaining the high school diploma. Exam total averaging a score of 45 is passing.

In order to be eligible to take the Hi-SET test, applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid government issued picture I.D. and show proof of residence. The Hi-SET pretest is recommended for all who want to sign up to take the official Hi-SET test. The free pretests serve as a predictor of performance on the official Hi-SET test and indicates which subjects the student may need to review before taking the official Hi-SET test Coaching and individual assistance are key instructional elements available at Porterville Adult School to assist students that want to prepare themselves to pass the Hi-SET exam. To register for preparation classes, the student must register online, attend an orientation session, take a CASAS test and pass that test with a 236. All preparation classes are free.

The Hi-SET exam fee below includes the first five initial tests. The official test can only be taken 3 times in a calendar year.
